Shared Hosting is a type of (low-end) Hosting Service (as compared to other types of hosting), in which multiple Websites and Users "share" a server.

This is often the lowest cost Hosting Service available, because the provider is able to spread the expense of the server (and related elements) across a large group of paying customers.

However this type of Hosting is not always well suited for all sites, because it is not always possible to isolate each Website from other sites that share the server.

The impact of this is the resulting possibility of uneven resource distribution in which a given Website may "abuse" or "over-use" the server's resources or services (i.e. CPU, Memory, SMTP, etc.), thus causing other Websites on the server to experience stability and/or performance issues, such as: slow / no response, inability to send or receive e-mail, or various random errors.

To make matters worse in this regard many providers load-up (over burden) their servers with as many as one-thousand (or more) sites on a single server, which exponentially increases the likelihood of such problems occurring.

ViUX™ makes use of what we call "Split-Shared" for our Shared Hosting Servers (SHS) in an effort to make our Shared Hosting more stable, secure, and reliable, than what can be expected of Shared Hosting with most providers.

In our "Split-Shared" deployment of Shared Hosting services we actually make use of Virtuozzo™ Containers; however in a different manner than detailed (at right) for our Virtual Private Server (VPS) Services.

Each of our Physical Shared Hosting Servers have Virtuozzo installed and the server is then "split" into (2) Virtual Servers, with each configured to host approximately (up to) 150 sites.

Instead of Virtual "Private" Servers (VPS) this method creates what we call Virtual "Shared" Servers (VSS aka "Split-Shared"). With this type of deployment the Physical Shared Server functions more like (2) stand-alone servers hosting (up to) 150 Websites each... instead of one server hosting (up to) 300 Websites.

Therefore our "Split-Shared" deployment is inherently more stable, secure, reliable, and has better performance than what can normally be expected of conventional Shared Hosting Services.

Virtual Hosting is a type of (mid-tier) Hosting Service, called Virtual Private Servers (VPS) or Virtual Dedicated Servers. At its most basic level, a VPS is a hybrid of both Shared & Dedicated Hosting - in that a VPS emulates a Dedicated Server... but the Hardware Node (i.e. Physical Server) may actually contain multiple VPS instances, that share the server's resources (i.e. CPU, Memory).

Therefore, with a VPS Plan, you have an independent and isolated environment, with your own: OS, Applications, Services, etc. - including a minimum guaranteed amount of the server's resources, such as: CPU; Memory; Disk Space; Bandwidth, etc.

The impact of this is that no one VPS instance is able to monopolize the server's resources - thus preventing any possibility of uneven resource distribution, or "abuse" / "over-use" of the server's resources.

This is made possible via Virtuozzo™ Containers, by Parallels™... which will even allow a VPS to "burst" to use the full resources of the server - so long as it does not infringe upon the resource needs of other VPS instances on the same Hardware Node. In the case of where all resources are in full use, each VPS is guaranteed a certain amount of resources - based upon the VPS Plan level.

For instance, gone would be the possibility that you would encounter an inability to send or receive e-mail due to the actions of a user outside of your domain, as is possible with Shared Hosting.
